Q: Ninety-six singers enter the second round of American Idol‘s season 9 Hollywood Week, and break off into an undetermined number of groups comprised of 3-5 contestants each. At least four groups choose to sing that hellacious Gwen Stefani song with the ”woo-hoo, whee-hoo” chorus. American Idol Season 9: Best and Worst of Hollywood, Rounds 1 and 2

Ah, Hollywood week. It’s my favorite time of the American Idol season, when early favorites crash and burn and dark horses suddenly emerge as frontrunners. I find myself rooting more for the contestants this week more than any other and I yell at my tv when the judges tell singers like Maddy Curtis and Seth Rollins that it’s the end of the road for them. Masochists rejoice: It’s Hollywood week on ‘American Idol’

Ahead of us is “Hollywood Week” on “American Idol.” Hollywood is known as a place where dreams come true — but not this week for a majority of the Idol hopefuls.

Around 170 or so golden tickets were given out, but only 24 make it through to the live shows. Thus, if my rusty math is right, over 140 shattered egos will wander back to their lives.
