So You Think You Can Dance Reveals Pitifully Puny Top…10?

June 10th, 2010

Season seven of So You Think You Can Dance is officially underway, albeit undermanned and with visions of krumper Russell still, er, dancing in our heads.

Not that we aren’t psyched to share this summer’s top 10, revealed Wednesday, all of whom are stunning movers, quirky artists and otherwise awesome in their own ways.

But is it just us, or is 10 new dancers just not enough, even with the promise of 10 all-stars from seasons past returning to partner them every week?

Turns out, it’s not just us.

With the competition stiffer than ever thanks to the format switcheroo, SYTYCD added a familiar-looking 11th dancer to the mix. » Read more: So You Think You Can Dance Reveals Pitifully Puny Top…10?

‘So You Think You Can Dance’ premiere recap: Fox show kicks off season seven

May 28th, 2010

It’s aaaaalmost Memorial Day weekend, which means summer is aaaaalmost officially upon us (in terms of weekends at the beach and TV schedules — I know the actual official first day of summer is June 21), which means its time for…”So You Think You Can Dance!”

I know last fall’s experiment with airing it in September sort of ruined the whole strictly summertime feel of the show, but it really is a warm weather series. Mostly because everyone on it is always sweaty and almost naked. And last night’s premiere was no exception! » Read more: ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ premiere recap: Fox show kicks off season seven

So You Think You Can Dance Episode Recap: The Top 20 Perform

June 11th, 2009

Now comes the exciting part of the competition. The Top 20 has been chosen, and we finally get some (hopefully interesting) back stories on the dancers we don’t know yet. But most of all, we’re going to see some amazing dancing. Let’s get started.

I always like to talk about the lovely Cat Deeley first, and it’s with a heavy heart that I admit to not loving her spider-webby dress. You know how much I worship the ground she walks on, so I will allow it. » Read more: So You Think You Can Dance Episode Recap: The Top 20 Perform

‘So You Think You Can Dance’ recap: Presenting the Top 20

June 5th, 2009

While driving in to work yesterday, I found myself on the phone (hands free, promise!) debating with my mother about whether Mia Michaels was (A) an insufferable and self-absorbed know-it-all or (B) an insufferable and self-absorbed know-it-all who makes for great TV and without whom So You Think You Can Dance would be a far less interesting show. In case it wasn’t already completely clear, I was arguing in Mia’s defense, and my basic point was this: Why broadcast a televised dancing competition show if you’re not going to include one or two diva choreographers with wacky ”artistic” hair, an imperious manner, and a tendency to regard auditioning dancers over one’s glasses with a face that could easily lead a random passerby to think one was repressing flatulence? Without Mia, the show would be more pleasant and easy-going, sure, but it would also more ordinary. » Read more: ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ recap: Presenting the Top 20

‘So You Think You Can Dance’s’ positive vibe

June 3rd, 2009

Fox’s reality show is ‘so reliant on the talent,’ creator Nigel Lythgoe says.

On its surface, “So You Think You Can Dance’s” Vegas Week looks like many battle-to-the death reality TV shows.
At the gigantic Theatre for the Performing Arts, just a few yards off Planet Hollywood Hotel’s casino floor, the requisite elements of the genre are clearly evident; dancers buckling under the pressure, judges sternly jotting down notes; camera crews capturing the tension as contestants fresh from the stage wonder whether they gave enough. » Read more: ‘So You Think You Can Dance’s’ positive vibe
