‘American Idol’ judge Ellen DeGeneres admits she expects the reality show to change quite a lot now it is no longer ”Simon’s show”.
Ellen DeGeneres thinks ‘American Idol’ will change now it’s no longer “Simon’s show”.
The chat show host – who has just finished her first series as a judge on the talent show, sitting alongside Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi – expects things to be completely different next series now the music mogul has left.
She said: “It’s always been Simon’s show. There’s a whole dynamic there. You want to be respectful, and it was his last year, and so a lot was going on that needed to happen. I think next year will be a different year.
“No one can replace Simon, just like I wasn’t replacing Paula Adbul.”
The ninth series ended last month, with Simon recording his last show before he launches ‘The X Factor’ in America during the finale won by Lee DeWyze on May 26.
Ellen believes the 24-year-old singer/songwriter beat runner-up Crystal Bowersox because he “showed his heart” more than her.
She added to USA Today: “It’s not just a singing competition. It’s personality, charisma. I think Lee won because he was able to reach a lot more people, because he showed his heart a little bit more.
“I’m hoping to find more unique people who never would have maybe been given a chance to be on the show. I like the fact that Crystal was on the show this year and wouldn’t have necessarily been on before. I want to find more dynamic people and more interesting people.”

OH REALLY? So American Idol is not about singing but about heart? Heck, I don’t sing at all but I enjoy feeding the poor and kissing ponies. Maybe I should audition and hopefully I win next season!
OMG. Lee showed his heart???? If being as boring as watching paint drying shows heart, then maybe. And who showed more heart than Adam Lambert….and he lost the title. Ellen is grasping at straws.
