The NGH Report – Thoughts on American Idol 9’s Top 5 Results

May 6th, 2010 by Joes Place Leave a reply »

As much as I hate the filler results episode (I really do.) this one wasn’t too hard to sit through. I happen to love this style of music so it was great to see Harry Connick Jr. do his thing. But, how weird was it for Lady Gaga to perform on this night of all nights? Nothing about her screams “crooner” at all. Well, we are officially down to the top 4 and this season is on its way to another conclusion and another crowning ceremony, but first let’s talk about who lost in this episode…

Aaron Kelly – Well, this wasn’t much of a surprise. Aaron has been turning in mediocre performances from the beginning of the competition with only a precious few standouts. He is simply not ready for this type of competition and should be extremely proud for ending as this seasons’ 5th place finisher. Aaron should have tried a little harder to lock up the country vote, but he never seemed to truly do so. There is a possibility that he could be a marketable artist after a lot of work, but right now, he’ll have to settle on a national tour and the money that goes along with it. Oh, how sad.

Now that we’ve discussed the eliminated contestant let’s move on and make some snide comments and observations about the rest of the episode…

1. The opening medley was cheesy, as always, but also it was interesting to watch Casey who seemed to mouth his solos with a vengeance. He was animated for once and actually looked comfortable without an instrument.

2. Wait; in the beginning of that medley, did they call Crystal a tramp?

3. Aaron Kelly sand “When I was 17, it was a very good year..” yea….because it just started like a few months ago and you’ve been on American Idol the entire time. I’m sure it has been a good year.

4. I don’t want to even comment on the Ford music video because it felt incredibly lazy. Seriously, do they film these things on the same back lot every week? I feel like I’ve seen that same street and buildings used in every Idol shoot.

5. The “Tuesday” segment was actually pretty interesting. I love to see the Idol’s in a comfort zone and interacting with each other because it lets me know who they are in private.

6. The faux judges in the aforementioned segment scared the crap out of me. Terrifying.

7. Hmm, after listening to Casey talk about his performance it was clear he was extremely unhappy with himself.

8. Lee, you know, if you insist on, you know, saying “you know,” you know, every three words, you know, I’m going to, you know, punch you in the effing mouth, you know?

9. Lady Gaga was… a performer? I have no idea how to comment on this woman.

10. Harry Connick Jr. is freaking hysterical and I would kill to interview him. No joke. If anybody out there can get me an interview with Harry let me know and then send me a Polaroid picture of the person you need whacked.

11. Thank you, Harry, for the “pitchy” mention! As I said last week; not a real term.

12. Can we please have Harry as Simon’s replacement? He knows music, he’s a professional artist with big record sales, he knows the industry, and he has no problem giving serious criticism to the contestants. Plus, he has an accent and people love him. Make it happen, Idol.

13. I personally loved Harry’s performance, but I couldn’t help but wonder what the thousands of twelve-year-old girls were thinking. I’m sure their thought process went something like this “Why isn’t he singing ‘I Just Haven’t Met You Yet?’ How old is he? Is dinner ready yet? I need to go take angled pictures on my web cam and post them on Facebook!”

14. “Lee, would you choose if I even asked?” Remember when Idol used to be mean? Remember when Ryan would forcibly make them choose? Oh, those were the days.

17. Michael Lynche is a nice guy. The words he gave to Aaron Kelly were very sweet and it was really cool to see how much love there is in this group.

Well, until next week!

Really? The entire time Mike was murmuring comfort to Aaron, I kept thinking it was all about “Him” (meaning Mike). He wanted everyone on National TV to see what a great comforting father figure of guy he was. See how great I am, everyone?

    Just my take on it.

What did he say to Aaron? I couldn’t hear him.
