I am a big big fan of Crystal's performing and her style. She comes across as very sincere in her music - as opposed to Katie, who comes across as a pageant contestant. (Although Katie is probably a terrific kid, that doesn't mean she connects through her music.)

I think it will be interesting to watch how the American Idol format and experience shapes Crystal's music. She is obviously flush with talent, but the adaptation of her gifts for this stage might be really cool to watch. I'd pay to go see her perform right now, but she could get even better if she can move out of her comfort zone successfully. She does come off as a bit too cool for this singing competition stuff, but that is some of her charm and it doesn't seem like posturing.

Oh and Siobhan is pretty good too!

Casey has roots in country and bluegrass. There may not be any music to hear but he has done both those. The music he was currently doing was blues with crossover. He has from what I hear fronted all kinds of bands. If he wants to get his niche on idol it is country. Kieth urban was perfect. It appealed to the masses and was relevant. There would be no place to play his music after idol if he went the blues.rock, If he wants mainstream country is where he is. I think if he went this direction on the show he could win.

DaveS: I was thinking MawMaw was insightful for the response given regarding Crystal being a “foul mouthed dirty hippie” until I read the last rant. I also like Crysytal, but unlike MawMaw I won’t denegrate whole classes of people who may vote otherwise. The hypocrisy here is amazing…one moment a speech to Aaron about being offended and moments later MawMaw offends half of America. It must be cool to be so smug and an elite at the same time.Go Crsytal and Siobhan!

????? I'm confused. I only posted once so not sure what you're talking about. Are you referring to Aaron's response TO ME, not by me?

Lacey is my fave! :D

I love Didi too! And poor Alex. He was another fave of mine. I like your rankings. They are very fair in my opinion. I love how it is pretty much anyone's game this season! I just hope to see everyone improve.

Crystal's a front runner, I'll give you that, BUT she's also a one-trick pony. Her chinks in her armor are going to show once the show goes into 'Theme Weeks'.
I also think, that for die-hard fans of the show, her initial remarks of, '...(sic) I don't want to be here, and I feel like I'm compromising myself and my artistic integrity, but need to feed my kid.' will continue to leave fans cold.

Just because Simon's declaring she's the one to beat, I think we're going to see Michael and Siobhan start to move up in popularity, as Crystal's act fades.

I disagree with people that say that the straight up performance by andrew garcia hurt him in that he peaked too early. if he didnt have that performance he wouldnt have all of the fans that voted him to this point. based on his three performances since the top 24 he should be gone. the reason why he is still around is probably closely related to his amazing performance of the paula song.

JP, I agree with almost all your comments especially the ones on Crystal. It is definitely her's to lose, I feel that if her health doesn't become an issue, she will continue to lead the pack. I am a little less concerned since I found out Bret Michaels of Poison has the same type of diabetes and has had a long career in music.

On Casey though it bothers me to see the insistence that he go the country route. Not because of my own preference in music, but because there's no hint in his preIdol stuff that makes me think he'd go that route. Of course, there was none in Gokey's either. LOL I can see Casey singing country if it's something he wants to do.

Lastly, Aaron's comment above "Crystal has the talent but America does not like foul mouthed dirty hippies." is just offensive to me on more levels than I have space to write about here. For instance, I'm as American as anyone can be and I happen to like people who are just who they are. At 62, I can still drop the "f bomb" if the situation demands it. I assume the "dirty" part was in reference to her dreds. It still amazes me that some think people with dreds don't wash their hair. Do a little research!!! The "hippie" part I actually agree with and is a large part of why I'm so attracted to her. IMO some of the best female singers ever came from the 60's and watching Crystal makes me remember them with every note she sings.

Great review of the contestants!

My favs right now are Crystal and Siobhan. My fav was Andrew at the start, but I have not been impressed lately....

I am new to your blog. I appreciate your well-rounded, constructive input on the contestants. Thanks! :)

i agree with Jenny about the ranking... i won't rank them this order if I will just base it on my preferences...

as much as i don't want to admit that Crystal will be the American Idol, she really has the biggest chance on winning it. she's like the Melinda of this season.

i love lacey, too. it's also good that people don't really expect much from her. LOL. that way, she can surprise and wow us. :D

i just wish lilly and alex and katelyn were in the top 12. it could be a very different competition.

I agree with your top 3, but I would add Casey James to the top 3...I do think he has the presence and talent to win it, and I love his country/rock style. I also think he has done a great job of getting thru an incredibly embarrassing stretch with Kara saying things that would have gotten a male judge thrown off the panel!
I could see any of these 4 winning, they are all amazing.

Yes, I've read your post and I enjoyed your write up on each of the contestants. My favorite is Siobahn, but I feel that America is not connecting with her, which is too bad. It's an interesting crop this year and it will be fun to see how it all plays out.

I think Didi can outlast the others because she has a great sound, good looks, and a pleasing personality.

Crystal has the talent but America does not like foul mouthed dirty hippies.

Siobhan has the voice but once again the nose ring and weirdness does not play well in Kansas.

If Didi can pick up her game a bit I think her voting block of Teens and ugly Americans will give it to her.
