Didn’t we just go through three freakin’ weeks of Billboard #1 Hits? Let me guess: Michael Lynche will sing “Against All Odds”, Casey James will sing “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” and Katie Stevens will sing “My Heart Will Go On” (quite possibly the three most overplayed songs in “Idol” history). What a boring, played-out theme. Yes, the rumored “Teen Idols” theme was cheesy (and a potential epic train wreck), but it at least had the potential to be interesting and fun. This is just…ugh…

I think it would be fun for Siobhan to do Little Peggy March’s “I Will Follow Him”….it would suit her powerful voice. That’s really reaching back – ’60s – and technically she wasn’t a ‘teen idol’ but apparently that theme was just a rumor. Anyway, “I Will Follow Him” was #1 in 1963, so it would qualify for this week’s theme.

Or Crystal could sing it…now THAT would be interesting. =)

And I’m really surprised that none of the major AI blogs posted any verification of “Teen Idol Week”. All I saw was that this leak came from one tweet from an unidentified source. But then all the blogs ran with the news like it came from Ryan or a contestant.

Then, once the official AI site listed “Billboard #1 Hits”, everyone is upset about the “change”.

What change? Looks like everyone just chased the “Teen Idol” news like lemmings without verifying the leak.

What a strange theme.
I appreciate this list, but something tells me that it will be limited to “current” “commercial” “young” etc. Teen Idols, like Miley, Jonas Bros, Taylor Swift…I can’t even think of any more at the moment. I hope it’s more broad, but you know idol. They make dumb choices all the time.
I used to love New Kids on the Block, and NSync! hahaha, it would be funny to hear one of their popular songs redone.

The big reason why Rock Star was so much better is that those singers were professionals and cast for talent. Idol is cast for type and ratings.

Wow..this is kind of broad. I mean, can’t you technically consider any performer that has ever been popular with teenagers a “teen idol?” The producers should really just limit this to performers that are associated almost exclusively with teen culture and didn’t really develop a significant audience outside of this demographic. I know that Elvis, the Beatles and Sinatra had rabid teenage followings, but I just don’t consider them in the same category with boy bands, David Cassidy, Leif Garrett, Bobby Sherman, Donny Osmond, Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber, etc.

Without knowing the parameters here, I’m a little hesitant to make a guess at song choices (I know if I had the option of picking a Lennon/McCartney song over Britney Spears, I’d probably take it). I will state, however, that Siobhan is almost guaranteed to pick a Hanson song (she has their lyrics tattooed on her arm, ffs). If I’m Siobhan, though, I would probably avoid singing “Weird.” Also, if I’m Crystal, I’d use this week to have a little fun with myself. She’s running the risk of appearing dour and humorless; maybe taking a page out of the Andrew García playbook would be good for her? I think that Crystal would actually kill with a version of “Baby One More Time” (and it would keep it out of Andrew’s filthy hands- LEAVE BRITNEY ALONE!).

Whose list of the Top 25 Teen Idols was that? Davey Jones on the top of list? Myley Cyrus at #3 (that right there invalidates the whole thing)

How about going back even further? – Frank Sinatra, Elvis, Bobby Darrin, Frankie Avalon, Ricky Nelson, The Beatles, Neil Diamond, etc.

And you do know that even mentioning Rockstar and American Idol in the same article (or website) is a sacrilege? Can we start a petition to bring Dave Navarro and his crew back?
