The sound of jaws dropping across the country after Thursday night’s shocking “American Idol” vote-off was mirrored in the comments left by MTV News readers in the wake of the eliminations of Katelyn Epperly, Lilly Scott, Alex Lambert and Todrick Hall.

“I can’t believe they sent this group away,” wrote a dumbfounded Dprk7r79

on Friday morning. “Did America really vote like this? I liked Lilly and Alex a lot.”

Others were just mad that voters appeared to just get it all wrong again. “How disappointing. Three of the four best contestants were sent home,” said Green Eggs and Ham. “I hope that Lilly, Alex and Todrick’s contracts allow them to produce albums now, because I will buy them. As for American Idol … You lost me tonight. I won’t be watching your show for the balance of this season.”

Some suggested that the nefarious spoilsports at VoteForTheWorst.com are having a real impact on season nine and throwing the vote. “Lilly and Alex should NOT have gone home, they were two of the best,” argued Fortunefox. “Shocked really. I think VFTW is having an unfortunate impact this season. Crystal [Bowersox], Michael [Lynche] & Lee [Dewyze] should be afraid … very afraid because as good as they are – tonight proves that NO ONE IS SAFE.”

Quite a few said they thought Scott and Epperly should have been saved in favor of teen Katie Stevens and Paige Miles, with the latter having her roughest week to date with a poorly received cover of “Smile” and the former continuing to struggle to sound contemporary and find her artistic niche. And, like quite a few angry posters, RockChick suggested that Lambert deserved to stay over onetime front-runner Andrew Garcia, who she said has been on a downward slide since his lauded “Straight Up” cover, even as Lambert has been steadily improving.

As for commenter Stampede, well, disbelief is the only way to describe it. “I’m still in shock from the eliminations tonight on ‘American Idol,’ ” read Stampede’s response. “Absolutely as usual America gets in wrong. I mean this is the 9th season of ‘American Idol,’ and in the 8 already finished, only 3 of the winners were the right choice. Lilly Scott is amazing, Alex Lambert has a great soulful voice, Andrew Garcia should have been the one to go. And for the girls, Didi [Benami] or Paige should have been the ones to go. Absolute outrage.”

Stampede even suggested that next year the power should be taken out of viewers’ hands and the judges should decide who gets eliminated each week. Ann Isabel is holding out hope that there’s a wild-card round this year, providing the opportunity for one the semi-finalists to return. And while many fans wrote in giving props to Scott and Lambert for their unique skills, one poster, Rachel, was just mad.

“I can understand everyone’s disappointment when some of the true talent got sent home last night,” she said. “So when did the audience of this show turn into idiots? Probably last season after they picked the wrong winner yet again!

vftw are unimportant little pimple faced insects who think they are changing something but they account for about 0.0001% of the vote that comes in so for all the work they do at the end of the day they are just morons who serve no real purpose. when the wrong person goes home it is simply because america is playing favorites rather than voting based on talent which is the way this show has always been, even long before vftw existed(tamyra gray anyone?). i think the judges should be able to use their save this early and save alex, he deserved to be there way more than tim or aaron. andrew and alex both deserved to move on, the bottom 3 for the guys this week should have been aaron, tim, and todrick.

This is what America gets when teenagers are let loose to power message instead of doing their homework. America Idol would do said teenagers and parents, not to mention the American Idol viewers, a great big favor if they limited the calls from each number a la Dancing with the Stars. Even then, results can be bizarre, but why make it worse by limiting voting by time alone? All four of the eliminated contestants deserved to be in the Top 12. If kids couldn’t vote as many times as they can redial in a two-hour period, maybe only one of those four would have gone home. And I have a SUPER idea for Tim Urban!!! Having done a pale and offensive imitation of Jason Castro with Hallelujah, he should now take on Imagine, doing Archie’s version of Eva Cassidy’s version (which was actually better than Eva’s). Wouldn’t that be great? Do you think Simon would hug him?

I really do not find VFTW funny anymore. Honestly, I could have lived with the eliminations aside from Lilly. She has such an amazing voice and I would have ranked her the 3rd best girl (behils Shiobhan and Crystal). This was utterly disgusting

Can’t say I’ll be watching this show anymore. It’s just a disappointment to see the best talent sent away every week while we have to watch singers like Tim Urban and Paige Miles stick around.

Interesting that there are other people besides me who are done with the show for this year.

As I said last night, it is hard to believe that AT LEAST one of Paige, Tim and Lacy will be going on tour.

Lilly and Katelyn were top 6 overall to me and Alex had some upside.

And, as I said, our current favorite Crystal is no better than 4th last year.

Bad talent, bad voting…time for a switch of channels.

Good bye American Idol. Will not watch you after Lilly’s exit. Will never watch you again as well since Simon is leaving

ok first off, im alittle annoyed with ppl getting so pissed..i will explain:

Alex Lambert- DESERVED IT, yes i wish tim had gone instead but my God, the kid has NO stage presence and the mullet is hideous, he has great tone, but watching him is deathly boring he needs more experience honestly.

Katelyn- I love this girl’s voice, but last night SHE SUKCED , so based on her performance, she did derserve to go home.

Todirck- DID NOT DESERVE IT, he was porbably one of the best perfromances boys night literalyy, it should have been aaron kelly instead.

Lilly- im sorry but her voice gets annoying as hell, its a unique voice and she’s strong contestant, but its the same ol same ol weird ass voice.

    who stayed:
well of course andrew, yeah he’s slipped up, but hes got a HUGE fan base and he’s been misunderstood but hes still doing awesome!

Didi- has never had a bad perfromance, her voice is beautiful and unique why send her home???

Lacey- who cares ? shes ok

big mike- his first good perfomance was this wk, if u ask me

crstaly is the best bar NONE
however i think sioban will win it, yr for a crazy to walk away w/ it..o well..whatever, they’ve gotten the winner wrong since season 5 when DAUTRY SHOULD’VE WON!…ppl are crazy

PAIGE MILES- NEEDS TO GET THE HELL OFF THE SHOW
TIM URBAN- GO THE HELL HOME!!!!

this is MY sole opinion, sorry if you dont agree, but im not talkin crazy, just what i think and feel

  9. Jenny wrote on 13. Mar 2010

I disagree about big mike. I thought his performance last week and the week before. the 1st week wasn’t the best but niether was anybody elses. Also todrick had the elimintion comming because his pprevious 2 weeks weren’t the best.

I hated watching that show, it was so ridiculous to see Tim Urban make it. The judges really screwed up even letting him into the top 24. I don’t see any appeal there at all. People say Alex L. has no stage presence, but his is just nerves, he has a great personality when he lets it show through. Tim is just awkward and lost and sings terrible. I’m so tired of seeing him on the show. I hope Katie goes soon too, she is very annoying. It’s weird to see a 17-year-old with the persona of a 32-year-old soccer mom.

I had looked forward to seeing what Todrick and Lily would come up with, I think they both have a lot of potential. Alex too, but he might have more growth ahead of him that can fit into a few weeks of AI.

    I’m done venting now.

  11. dylon wrote on 13. Mar 2010

Stampede lost credibly when he said Did should have been eliminated. Didi should be the winner.

  12. Jiggs wrote on 14. Mar 2010

Lily is potentially a major creative talent — adult pop or jazz. What a crime. I’m done with AI this year.

  13. Tati wrote on 15. Mar 2010

I guess.. I’m really one of the few that isn’t heartbroken over Alex going? I never got him…..never liked his voice..never got his look.. I just never got it.. don’t get me wrong… yes.. it suck seeing the kid so sad.. poor thing.. And although the petition is a noble effort.. you have to know it won’t work… because it would be unfair to give him another shot.. and not consider giving the other 3 another shot too.. This season.. as whole pretty much stinks…. and the only 2 ray of hope in the competition are Siobhan and Crystal… (and Casey..but that’s purely physical…)

    REALLY?

WHAT? Lacey, Paige, and Katie over Lilly and the beautiful Katelyn? REALLY America? Lacey is simply safe because the producer likes her and because I’ve heard their are people in her church voting as many as 20,000+ times per person for her. Not real fair “voice of America” as a whole if you ask me. Then Paige has VFTW & Katie has her her whole school pullin for her! Unfortunately with the mass texting that is available it is really hard to say that it is a TRUE vote that America as a whole is picking. IDOL, you really must limit the number of votes a person can cast! Maybe more like So You Think You Can Dance does. But i’m sure it sounds really sweet on TV to say 30million votes were cast. PROBLEM: We just may have a winner like Miss Lacey Brown or Page Miles. To that i say REALLY?
