Ellen DeGeneres told Ryan Seacrest on his radio show Tuesday morning that she was surprised by just how little experience some of the Hollywood contestants had. “Like, they’re literally coming out of just a job and they just have a good voice and they’ve never really auditioned before,” said Ellen, who makes her debut as a judge on tonight’s American Idol. “That’s a really hard process, for someone who’s never auditioned before to get a harsh taste of reality, of hearing, you know, harsh criticism or ‘no.’”
And as far as the much rumored tension between Ellen and Simon Cowell? “Everybody’s making such a big deal about the tension, you know,” she says. “There’s been a lot of fun on that panel. … Kara’s been great, and Randy’s been great. … I think it was either Wednesday or Tuesday, Simon was great. One of the days.”
