Adam Lambert is now at his highest position yet as a solo artist. The singer, who placed second on this past season of “American Idol,” saw his new single “Whataya Want From Me” rise all the way to #37 on the Billboard Hot 100. At this time last week, the song was at #55. Previously, Lambert’s highest point post-”Idol” was when “Time For Miracles” debuted at #50.

What is the reason for the sudden jump? You can largely attribute it to both airplay and an appearance Adam made last week on “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” The singer has spent much of this week in Canada, and will return Sunday night for the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles.

Kris Allen, meanwhile, experienced a slight dip as “Live Like We’re Dying” dropped to #26 after being at #25 last week. The “American Idol” winner has received a good deal of airplay, but also has not had the same sort of high-profile public appearances as Adam. (However, Fox did recently play his song “Before We Come Undone” during an “Idol” audition episode.)

Wow, that’s some great spin right there! Despite all of that promo, Kris’ single is still outselling all THREE of Adam’s singles.

    To quote USAToday:

Adam Lambert’s post-Oprah sales boost wasn’t quite enough to get him past Kris Allen on the downloads chart. Live Like We’re Dying remained last week’s top-selling Idol download, according to Nielsen SoundScan, moving 65,000 units. Whataya Want From Me came in a close second, with 59,000.

Kris Allen, Live Like We’re Dying (65,000, -6 percent, 685,000 total)
Adam Lambert, Whataya Want From Me (59,000, +59 percent, 266,000)

    How about Album Sales:

Kris Allen, Kris Allen (5,000, -14 percent, 245,000/1,000 digital, -22 percent, 41,000 digital total)

Adam Lambert, For Your Entertainment (20,000, +60 percent, 477,000/3,000 digital, +83 percent, 61,000 digital total)

I still think all things aside Kris is outselling Adam.

Because if you add Kris’ album sells of 245,000 plus single sells of 685,000 that equals 930,000.

Compared to Adam’s album of 477,000 plus 266,000 equals 743,000. I guess if you add For Your Entertainment 230,000 that would be 973,000. But that shouldn’t really count because Kris hasn’t had three singles digitally released like Adam has i.e. Time For Miracles, FYE and WWFM.

Singles are peanuts compared to albums. I’d take Adam’s sales numbers over Kris’s any day. For Your Entertainment is currently #21 on Billboard. Kris Allen is #101.

Joes Place, why are you so dead set on comparing the two of them to begin with? Why do you feel the need to bring down Kris? For an adult woman of your age it’s pretty childish, but then again I’m talking to a glambert/lambskank so I guess I shouldnt expect much. You really need to get over the fact that Adam lost. Both he and Kris are doing well so there’s no need for spin one way or another.

But I will say I’m surprised Adam isn’t gold yet with all his promotion and how long he’s been past the 400k mark. And it will be interesting to see how Adam manages to stay afloat when he doesn’t have Oprah’s help.

In all fairness, most Kris fans didn’t bulk-buy his album like numerous, ravenous, obsessive Adam fans did. There are an extraordinary amount of fans who bought 10-25 copies of his album, which is ridiculous. All of that fanaticism certainly can be attributed to his album sales inflation.

I’m just glad to see Kris doing so well on the radio without his fans harassing DJs across the country.

That’s a lame Excuse. Excessive fans doing something in bulk is why Kris Won AI.

No one know how, or why, fans bought each singers music, Cant we say Kris’ excessive fans bought 5 copies of his single each?

The NUMBERS are the only thing that matter.

And, FYI, I bought Kris’ music and didnt but Adams.

I have absolutely nothing against Kris. In fact, I bought his CD as well as Adam’s. What I do have something against are Kris’s “fans” who voted for him, but then didn’t ante up when it came time to buy his CD. That’s shameful, IMHO.

Yes Adam did way outsell Kris album wise. Yes albums cost more than singles. All I’m saying is Kris Allen would have sold close to that if not matched it album wise had a good portion of his fanbase bought multiple copies. Hence Adam not getting a lot of airplay. Radio is smart enough to see through inflated numbers. Plain and simple. Kris’s single has done well and seems to be outside the Idol bubble. I actually do like Adam. But inflated fanbase sales are just that … inflated and not a true representation of popularity.

  22. DougMod wrote on 30. Jan 2010

I disagree , to say the sales are inflated is not rational. No one held a gun to these peoples heads to make them buy the CD.

And i do believe there is a direct correlation of popularity and sales.

Dougmod – doesnt matter if she didnt write it, she still purposely posted an article w/ spin and didnt deny the spin. She went on to post those sales figures which makes her agenda pretty obvious :) No one insulted Joe, Im just keeping it real and Im sure if she feels insulted she can fight her own battles and doesn’t need her weak little minions coming to her aide. Nice try though!

JoesPlace -Uh, no duh that you can post what you want? You can also look as petty as you want, you can also have as little integrity as you want, you can also blindly lead your followers into beliving things that are false as much as you want. But how on earth do actual singles sales figures “don’t mean jack”?? LOL, because you don’t like them? You make no sense at all. Sorry that Adams singles aren’t selling, no need to get so defensive over it :*

    Tati – Whine more, k?

And some of you Adam fans should starting wondering what he’s going to do in a couple of months when he’s NOT the flavor of the moment and Oprah doesn’t feel like pimping him out of every orifice. He still hasn’t blown up with all the help he’s gotten.

Seriously I cannot believe how you all are going on about Adam vs Kris. I am in New Zealand and we dont get why popularity rules over singing in a singing competition but thats how it goes so either accept it or dont. I personally like Adam Lambert coming from a musical background as the daughter of a famous english singer/song writer, its very obvious he has unreal talents, and obviously the band Queen saw that also. I think all of you should support who you want to and let it go and concentrate on this years AI. At the end of the day if they have the talent they will stick around or they will fade away, doesnt make any difference comparing sales figures, album sales etc etc because in this business its all about stamina and stickability. PS Simon Cowell is a very nice man in person!
