Welcome back, Idol fans!  Let’s use this space to discuss tonight’s show.  Come join our CHAT on the main page.

We start tonight’s episode with a recap of all that’s happened since Kris became the latest American Idol: Paula leaving, the many guest judges during the auditions, then Ellen Degeneres becomes the newest Idol Judge.

The first city up is Boston. The guest judge for Boston is Ex-Spice Girl Victoria Beckham.

Now, we are on to the contestants:

Janet McNamara from Sommerville Ma – She gets a big ol’ NO from the judges.

Maddie Curtis a 16 year old from Bluemont VA.  She sings “Hallelujah” by Leonard Cohen.  She’s got four brothers with downs syndrome. She seems like a real sweet girl. She gets four YES’s from the Judges.

Pat Ford , 17 , from Derry, NH sings “Womanizer” and gets four NO’s

Amadeo DiRocco, 28, from Providence, RI sings “Hoochy Coochie Man” by Muddy Waters. He is from Italy.  They show his fun home. He gets four YES‘s

Derek Hilton , 19 , from Bellingham, MA sings “Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word” by Elton John and after Simon belittles him a bit he gets four NOs

Mary Doyle from Wapole, MA signs“Piece of My Heart” by Janis Joplin.  Ohhhhhh, she’s a screamer.  My Ears.  She gets all No’s and cannot believe it.

They show two quick YES’s to Luke Shaffer 24, of  NY and  Benjamin Bright.

No one has really WOWed me tonight so far…At All.

Andrew ,25, from Boston, MA sings “House of the Rising Sun”. He is really coming across as an angry person and Kara takes and instant dislike to him, and tells him so.  The Girls and Randy say NO, Simon says yes, just to piss off the girls.

Kris Allen’s new Ford commercial “Alright With Me”.  Great!

Ashley Rodriguez , 22, from   sings “If I Ain’t Got You” .  She’s great.  Seems like one that will make the top 24.  She gets 4 strong yes‘s from the judges who all love her.  Ellen showed her on her TV show today in the Idol preview.

Tyler Grady, 23, from Nazareth PA sings  “Let’s Get it On” by Marvin Gaye.  He’s got a cool Jim Morrison, 70′s vibe going on.  I could see him making the top 24/50 if he can sing a few different styles.  The judges give him four YESs.

That’s all for day One in Boston.  Ryan says that 17 advance on the first day.

DAY TWO:

We start the day with a Bad Singer montage.  Lovely.

Lisa Olivera from  Billerica, MA  sings “Vision of Love” by Mariah Carey.  She’s totally confident/cocky, but My God, my Ears!  Ouch.  She’s horrible.  she gets four NOs.

Mike Davis , 18  from Boston sings “Yesterday” by the Beatles –He points out in the harbor to CODZILLA.  Says he’s the boat driver of this crazy boat that goes 55 mph with fast, fun turns.  Randy wants to go for a ride.  They all really like him and he gets four YESs.

Katie Stevens ,16  sings “At Last” by Etta James. Her Grandma has Alzheimer’s.  She is REALLY GOOD.  She’s exactly what the judges are looking for this year.  She’ll make it far.  She gets four YESs from the judges.  Best of the night – by far.

Joshua Blayock sings “God Bless The Broken Road”.  Simon calls him forgettable, but he is actually pretty good.  As simon gets up to leave, they all give him four YESs.

Justin Williams , 21 , from Sandy UT sings “Feeling Good”  We have our first returning contestant.  Justin made it to Hollywood last year and was in the  White Chocolate group with Kris and Matt Giraud.  It’s strange that no one brings it up that he was here last year.  But this year he gets the “back story”.  He got cancer seven years ago while on dute in France, but is in remission now.

Norberto Guerrro sings “Every Time We Touch”.  We’ve seen him in the previews.  Hes got an awful long mullet.  He gets four NOs.

Bosa Mora from Columbus OH – His parents are Nigerian.  Simon says “Good but boring”.  I tend to agree, but he gets four YESs.

Leah Laurenti , 22 from Medford, NY sings “Blue Skies”.  Her religious family wouldn’t let her listen to music.  She is emotional about her dream of singing.  She’s good!  She gets the last golden ticket of the day when she gets four YESs from the judges.

In all, 32 tickets were handed out in Boston. Tomorrow Atlanta.

Was Idol worth the wait?  What did you all think of the talent tonight?

I truly don’t know if Kradam has ruined AI for me forever. I put so much emotion into both of them last season I was just mentally exhausted by the finale. No other season has done that to me…Archie and Cookie came close though! I can not spend another season glued to my keyboard scouring for spoilers and tidbits…I am simply too old, but if someone knocks it out the box..well it’s over!
ALSO–I watched the last season of X Factor and noticed Simon was so much nicer to the contestants who were far less talented than last season’s AI contestants. (even Danny Gokey was better than most of the X Factor kids!) So I want to see how Simon treats the kids this year. He’s either mellowed or just hates Americans.

TY, JP!! (Hiya sneeze!) Cannot wait for Simon. He better be Epic this season. Hear me, Mr. Cowell? LOL

JP, cia’s smilie was lost. Can we(i.e.,you) make replacements?

  3. Joes Place says:

Yes, of course, Anod. I will make one in the moring for CIA. Remind me. :)

  4. Anod says:

    Will do JP.
    And we are off!!!

  5. Leder says:

Codzilla Driver Mike Davis dissed by Randy similar to Kris and David from prevoius contests. Seems judges tend to diss the potentials or the already picked to win contestants.

  6. Vanessa says:

Justin Williams cover of ‘Crush’ (rly good!)

The BEST thing about tonight, phony or not, was the schtick by Andrew Fenlon (guy in glasses that Kara wanted to spank). There were WAY too many sappy back stories.

And I don’t care if the final 2 this year is Adam Lambert vs Sarah Palin, I’m not voting even once.

The whole damn thing is rigged and they already picked a girl to win.

  8. Vanessa Green says:

If they rig a girl to win even if there are better guys, that will be really bad for Idol because the song sales won’t relate now and later on. Idol wants to make money so I don’t think they will rig anything
