Unfortunately, my computer will not play these these interview. If anyone has been able to listen, would you mind giving a summary of what was said… maybe just important points? It would be appreciated!
Lynn, Ryan’s interview with Kris was with Kris and his wife. They talked about having no idea how their lives will change with this win. They have only been married for 8 months so they have not even had a normal getting to know each other period. Even though they have known each other for about eight years from school. He started idol really soon after their wedding. She is apparently younger than him because she said she did not go to her school prom because he had started college and was not interested in the highschool thing. They plan to have children down the road but that will have to wait. He told Adam last night that he (Adam) desrved to win not him. He plans to do a pop songs album first and then go from there. He feels they both are winners for their own type of genre. Looking forward to the tour but that will take him away from his wife even more. She is very proud of her husband, they called each other the first husband and first lady of american idol.
Ryan’s interview with Simon was basically Simon felt that as long as America is allowed to vote, they will turn to voting for the popular one, the cute puppy dog one. Talent comes farther down on the list. He put Kris one notch above Taylor Hicks. He wished him well but feels Adam will fair much better in this business and desrved to win. Asked about Kara and her showing her body on stage and Simon told Randy she didn’t look bad for her age, ha, ha. Simon’s ex girlfriend was attacked last night by a jealous woman but she will be fine. Tryouts for next years idol start in a few months and from what they inferred they all will be back. We shall see.
Adam told Ryan that he got into idol to get exposure to try to better his life and he accomplished that. Even without the win he feels he is going to do quite well, he believes in himself and getting this far showed him people did support his style and difference and that meant a lot to him. This experience has brought his family closer and there were times when he was in his younger 20′s that he really struggled to pay his bills and his dad came to his rescue more than once and now he feels he will be able to go full circle to help them as much as they helped him. He stated he was to wear a certain type of boot for the opening number but when they took the boots out of the box, the company had sent 2 left boots so they had to contact the designer and had the right boot flown here from Belgium with the designer and it arrived right before they had to go out on stage. He is looking forward to the tour and Ryan told him he would be waiting to get his first album.
That was about the jist of the interviews, hope that helps. Amy
Thanks, Amy for the full transcript of the interview. I feel much better after knowing Simon’s opinion. I also think these votes do not represents talents. Hope the show’s producers will think of ways to prevent this happens in the future. It’s really feels unfair for the more talented one.
******Interesting interveiw with Simon. ALl should listen to it. It seems Simon, while trying not to say so outright, thinks Kris is average as a singer, telling Ryan that he was not the best singer in the competition. Duh?? There were at least 4-5 who were better, IMO. When asked by Ryan how Kris compared to past Idol winners–Simon hesitated a bit, then admitted that Kris is better than Reuben Stoddard. A bit later Taylor Hicks came up and I heard a little differently than Amy (above)–it seems when Simon was trying to come up with some names of past winenrs who were worse than Kris, he menioned Taylor Hicks–and my impresion was that he said “He (Taylor Hicks) is better (than Kris)” not the converse. It was very tepid, obligatory support at best on Simon’s part–damning by faint praise. When asked about Kris’ talent he said somethng like “He’s like a puppy dog” and “america votes and you have to accept it” . He was being honest but still hesitant to come out and say that the wrong person won—but he said that in not so many words.
Additionally, I had the impression–and I think I am correct–that Simon thought that Kris’ humility was “mock humility” during the competion. The “oh shucks” was getting a little old. He said to him at one time “We don’t want humility”. I think that Adam was humble, gracious and kind. I never got the feeling that with Kris it was that genuine. Sorry Kris fans! The wrong guy won and most people seem to know it!
All shoudk listen to this interview and offer their imressions.
Cheri: Actually, a majority of the voters say the right guy won. What most people forget is that this isn’t “So you think you can Sing”, in other words it isn’t solely about singing, it’s also about your abilities as an artist, your look, etc. While Adam and Kris both have those qualities, America has stated the musical stylings of understated Kris match up with the current music scene.
Look at it this way, In the current music scene who sells more records right now: Keith Urban or Kiss? That should tell you why Kris won!
I can tell you Kris’ humbleness is not fake or a front. That is his overall demeanor. While I can’t call myself a good friend, I am an acquantence and have collaborated musically with him on numerous occasions. Kris is a laid back guy who doesn’t need to push his ego out there to feel good about himself like Simon and some others feel he should.
Also, Adam is gonna go far no doubt! There is also no doubt that he is very very talented. But in the end his flamboyance and flair were too much for most of America. The Era of the Glamorous Rocker was at least a couple of decades ago. There is a reason he had a hard time breaking out of theater (which is his wheelhouse). Queen is awesome but they are also of the past and I hear they have asked him to front them. Again that would be an honor, but think how does that help his long-term career except delaying his solo career.
No matter what, I wish them both the best of luck and hope they have a long and prosperous career!

With all due respect, I cannot disagree with you more. I think Adam is not “Kiss” and I actually think it was rather beneath him to perform with a group that I consider a little campy. But he is the good foot soldier and he prospered. Adam is not only a glam rocker–I personally think he can do anything. I do not think that there is a high demand for the style of Kris’ music as there are already folksy type artisits who I believe are better vocalists than Kris. He certainly is somewhat talented and has a style–but he is not unique or indispensible.
I do not agree that Kris won based on his inate talents. I am not saying this to bash him. I would have accepted an Allison or, while I am not a fan, A Danny win as legitimate. I feel like Kris was a pawn in a nasty anti-Adam back lash…among other reasons Ihave for his unanticipated win. It is clear to me that Simon believes him unworthy as well. Furthermore, Adam has a stronger fan base–in human count–i.e.: more homosapiens like Adam over Kris. I think Kris knows this and all external indicators support this. But, Kris had a higher number of votes. Wanna win ‘fair and square’ next time without your triumph being called ino question?–limit the votes per phone line.
