Okay, if you want Adam to do something not in the 70's or 80's, I'd suggest Black Hole Sun, by Soundgarden. He could really make that song his own with his voice range. I have to stay with my Seattle roots here.

For Allison, Somebody Bring Me Some Water by Melissa Ethridge.

I didn't watch last year... cie la vie. Another good pick for him would be Princes of the Universe by Queen.

Would love to have an ALL ADAM! ROCKS NIGHT, but since he must choose, any of these would do:

Led Zeppelin, "Whole Lotta Love" or “Stairway to Heaven”
Aerosmith, “Dream On” or "Back in the Saddle Again"
The Animals, “The House of the Rising Sun”
Cream, “Sunshine of Your Love”
David Bowie, “Fame” or "Changes"
Deep Purple, “Smoke on the Water”
The Doors, “Light My Fire”,"Touch Me", "Break on Through (to the Other Side)"
Jethro Tull, “Aqualung” or "Locomotive Breath"
Pink Floyd, "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" or “Money”
Guns N’ Roses, “Welcome to the Jungle”
The Rolling Stones, “Time Is on My Side”
Nirvana, “Smells Like Teen Spirit”
U2, “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” or "Pride (In the Name of Love)"
The Who, “Baba O’Riley” or "My Generation"

I guess someone who always seems to know these things has noted that it is now:

CLASSIC ROCK OF 70s and 80s.

So hopefully that might help people narrow their choices a bit.

My one and only suggestion as something not obvious but well known is
HOT BLOODED by Foreigner.

Let Adam be Adam FTW.

Ok, so this is my 'Adam' list. I've looked for songs that would allow him to use the full range of his voice, and still retain the original melody and mood of the songs...in other words, all he has to do is sing any one of them 'as is' and he will be amazing:

Piece of My Heart - Janis joplin
White Wedding - Billy Idol
Teen Spirit - Nirvana
Walk this Way/Dream On - Aerosmith
Sweet Child Of Mine/Welcome to the Jungle - GnR
Wild Horses - Rolling Stones
Layla - Eric Calpton version
Break on Through - The Doors

I know, most are 'old' songs, but these are the ones that came to mind when I consider Adam's range and ability to make old things seem new again.

Seeing the powers that be at AI have decided that the world as we know it will end if they allow a song from after 1990 to be performed we are again stuck with music from 70s and 80s. Classic Rock this time - Whatever the hell that means.

So after due consideration of all options (and with my opinion of Journey well documented in previous posts) I have to SECOND THE SUGGESTION ABOVE.

HOT BLOODED by Foreigner.

Preferably performed glammed out to the max with glittery boots platform boots and flames shoot from him head.

Thank you.

bridgeymah: OK people here is my challenge to you all - come up with a list for each person that contains NO songs from before 1990.

For something more modern (as in late 90's, early 2000's), The White Stripes have a fantastic catalog that I think Adam could do really well with.

Granted the more singer-oriented songs on that Jack White does are also more obscure, there's a couple that I think Adam could pull off.

For instance, "I'm Lonely, but I Ain't that Lonely Yet" or "A Martyr for my Love for You" are both fantastic ballad-ish songs with oodles of emotion and falsetto.

I agree with Bob on Adam singing "Yesterday". Perfect for him and perfect for a Rock and Roll ballad.

I also thought of "It's a Man's World" and watched that video a couple times today!

But I have changed my mind on the more upbeat song. I'd like to hear him sing "Under Pressure" Queen/Bowie.
Great song name for his present situation too!

Adam fans............VOTE,VOTE,Vote

Randy said that RoF was what Nine Inch Nails would sound like doing country. That could help or hurt Adam...not sure I would go there right now, though of course I love Emo!Adam

Mid-tempo: Journey, Nirvana, Collective Soul, Prince (PLEASE DO PRINCE), Red Hot Chili Peppers, if current. Katy Perry would be awesome (LOL).

Uptempo: G&R, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, or The Who and Spoon, The Killers, My Morning Jacket, Kings of Leon if contemporary (naah, he is going big)

BTW, he won't do any of these :)

DO NOT SING BOWIE OR QUEEN OR KISS. DO NOT DO IT.

Allison: Stevie Nicks, Heart, Ruth Brown (bluesy but not boring), Janis Joplin, Aretha Franklin (but not RESPECT), Prince, and wow, I would love to hear her do Sinead O'Connor. If current, Amy Whinehouse, Lily Allen, or Duffy. Allison won't do No Doubt b/c they are on the next night, but she would KILL it. Maybe she will do Pink...

Kris: Van Morrison, Steely Dan, Eagles, The Police, REM, maybe? If current, I could see Gavin DeGraw or Matt Nathanson.

Danny: Eric Clapton, Screamin' Jay Hawkins (HEH), The Temptations (then he can dance with the band!)m The Kinks, Stray Cats, no dead-wife references like Yesterday, I'm begging you, Danny. If current, Maroon Five, Brad Paisley, or Ray LaMontagne

AND...I will get exactly none of these right ;)

BTW, I am not sure they have to be from the R&R Hall of Fame. I'd like at least one contemporary song for Adam, anyway, something from the 2000s (MW was a cover).

Since no one here has suggested this so far, how about this one for either Kris or Adam?

"Hurt," nine inch nails

Kris could conceivably kill the Johnny Cash version, while Adam could have another "Mad World" moment with the original.

I'm inclined to believe you on that, JP. And I also see Danny winning. He seems to have the cougar vote this season (from anecdotal evidence), and they're a powerful voting block. Just IMO.
I hope Adam's fanbase can carry him over the finish line, but lot of people seem to be gunning for him, which I find weird, because he seems inoffensive to me.

LMAO... Bill, I agree. I actually do believe, though, that Adam actually was bottom 2. His fans got lazy. Thinking he was so far ahead of everyone else. Splitting votes to ensure your second fave stays as well. I'm betting that won't happen again. Adam will make it into the finale with 100% fan support. However, I still see Danny walking away with the title.

I can't help but think of the words of General Yamamoto after the Japanese sneak attack on Pearl Harbor. Instead of claiming victory, he said:

"I think we have only wakened a sleeping giant and filled him with terrible resolve..."

I think this is what Idol's gamesmanship with Adam last night has done to his fan base. We are PISSED and we are gonna VOTE ANGRY.

It's not just that they played games with the numbers, putting Adam in the bottom 2 (I mean, c'mon, it's just too damned convenient), but they had to humiliate him with the whole guessing his group thing. I mean, that was some heartless bullsh*t there.

Still, it may be the one thing that actually ends up winning the competition for Adam.

We are now "filled with a terrible resolve".

Space Odddity- Never been done before, probably never be done again (except by Adam who is the only one who can do this and do it right).
Changes - So many possibilites to play with on this song.
Rebel, Rebel - Who else but Adam can sing this and mean it.
Under Pressure - orig include Freddie Mercury
Modern Love - simply a favorite

I'm too freaked about this week to even think about next week. Hell, it hasn't even aired here yet. I just checked online this morning and nearly had a heart attack. *praying* Here's hoping this rallies the troops. I feel so powerless here in India.

I think Kris would do so well with While My Guitar Gently Weeps, but the Across the Universe version. It would really allow him to be in his element but also show an emotional, vulnerable side.

Wow - get up on the wrong side of the bed much. Ok - fine then I go back to my point about how much MORE mainstream could he have been. Aside from Mad World, and maybe PTFMWB pretty much all his songs have been well known in the mainstream, so I guess I am just not getting what you mean by mainstream.

Am always happy to be enlightened.

bridgeymah,

If I want you to put words in my mouth, I'll ask.

No, I am not saying Adam should "water down" his performances. I am just saying he should pick more mainstream songs that average people know and can relate to.

JP: Easy, Bill

Let's try a more MODERN list. 2000's is probably asking too much so see what you all make of this list of top Rock songs of 1990's.

http://digitaldreamdoor.nutsie.com/pages/best_songs90s.html

From this list:

Puppies and Rainbows can Mraz his little self all over- Smooth by Santana
Pebbles can growl through- Ironic by Alanis Morrisette
Gokey can get all Pokey over- Losing my religion by REM (too easy) or Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton because we haven't had that reference for a week or two.
HNN (because the Adam is built in)- Bittersweet Symphony by Verve (because he already went all rocked out on BTbW) and of course Guns and Roses would be too obvious.

Refuse to do two until I know they are doing two.

Bill I would hardly call Born to Be Wild, Black and White, Ring of Fire, Feeling Good, etc obscure. Ok so Mad World was not super well known to Top 40 listening masses but come on - aren't you talking about watering down his presentation to make it more "acceptable" to the masses and IMHO that is a lose lose.

The ones who hate you will always not matter what if he didn't get em with IICHY and ToMT adding Dust in the Wind on the pile isn't going to make a damn bit of difference. All he does is allienate the people who love and adore his fabulous glam next generation new wave self.

Ok so if they have to pick from the list these are my ideas

Adam-Whole Lotta Love, Back In Black (i just love this song though it's probably not for Idol), When Doves Cry, Sweet Child Of Mine, All Along The Watchtower
Allison-Son Of A Preacher Man, One Way Or Another, Somebody To Love, Boys Of Summer
Kris-Layla, Moondance, With A Little Help From My Friends, Roxanne
Danny-Wonderful World, Mustang Sally

Is it 100% confirmed that they are definetly singing 2 songs next week? As i can't imagine how much filler there would need to be if there were only going to be 4 performances in 1 hour
