8. Scott MacIntyre: (Last week: No. 9) Love the singer, but the singing? Well, not so much. It’s true, his stripped-down rendition of “Just the Way You Are” was his best performance of the season, but it still had all the relevance of a Beta Tape Player in a Blu-Ray world, and contained more than its share of bunky notes. Since the judges pumped up the praise during “Top Downloads” Night, they don’t need to worry about looking too cruel during “Songs from the Year You Were Born” Week. Isn’t Top 8 enough for the inspirational contestant?
7. Lil Rounds: (Last week: No. 7) Is she one of this season’s strongest singers, or an over-hyped shouter who keeps picking songs that are too big for her limited voice? The judges keep taking the former stance, but Lil’s too-flat, too-strained “I Surrender” supported the latter opinion. It can’t hurt her chances that she’s one of only two remaining women, but Lil needs a breakout week to reverse weeks of dying buzz. The tragic array of hairstyles ain’t helping, either.
6. Anoop Desai: (Last week: No. 5) After an awesome “Always on My Mind” and a solid “Ooo Baby Baby,” ‘Noop Dawg slipped backward with a decently sung but tepidly performed “Caught Up.” Inconsistency is a problem, but so is his image. Needs to prove he’s more than Joe Student singing an R&B ballad. Why not try delving into the alternative genre, and go for a radical style upgrade — might we suggest a buzz cut? — to make America take a second look/listen?
5. Matt Giraud: (Last week: No. 6) His off-pitch, almost maniacal cover of “You Found Me” was his biggest disaster since the “Viva La Vida” Incident. But Matt has a history of following up blunders with top-notch performances. Needs to take a lesson from season 7′s talented Carly Smithson: The more desperately she wanted to win, the less fun it looked like she was having on the Idol stage, and the crueler Simon got with his feedback. In other words, how can anyone enjoy Matt if he’s not enjoying himself?
4. Danny Gokey: (Last week: No. 4) The judges went back to their knee-jerk praise after his heartfelt but overbaked “What Hurts the Most.” And while the polarizing personality hasn’t missed many notes in the competition — save for those so-so verses in “Jesus Take the Wheel” — he needs to realize not every song should be driven like a Monster Truck rumbling through a rowdy arena. A little originality in his song arrangements wouldn’t hurt, either.
3. Allison Iraheta: (Last week: No. 2) Landed in the bottom three for the second time in three weeks after the judges spent 90 percent of her critique ragging on her wacky plaid dress and spiky fuschia hair rather than her lovely vocal performance of (and decent guitar-playing on) “Don’t Speak.” Would love to see her nail her Top 8 performance, but worried the judges might try to stone her if she threatens their pre-ordained Adam-Lil-Danny final three.
2. Kris Allen: (Last week: No. 3) Another week, another gorgeous vocal — and this time while tickling the ivories instead of strumming his guitar. Oddly enough, though, despite the fact that Kris’ “Ain’t No Sunshine” was the best of the week, the judges remained muted with their praise. Since when did the combination of great looks, great voice, and a great personality become so hard to love?
1. Adam Lambert: (Last week: No. 1) Riding so high that he manages to look cool (and maintain his top slot) even after choosing Wild Cherry’s “Play That Funky Music.” Would love to see him dial it back and give viewers a second glance at the emotionally connected artist who gave us that devastating cover of “Tracks of My Tears,” but let’s be honest: he could probably belt “Macarena” and still sail through to the finale.

Sorry, love Kris, but he wont outshine Danny. And certainly Allison wont. She just wont get the votes, no matter how well she sings. The judges dont want here there…cant you tell? She’s not marketable for the long haul. [i know, I'm in marketing/pr]
And Lil is better than Anoop.
Goodbye Scott.
Switch Matt and Danny, and I’m good. I’d actually like to see Matt go #3, but I don’t think it’s going to happen unless he has a KICK BUTT performance. Allison could go as low as 5th, though. Hard to tell.
And BTW…Adam does not screech. He wails.
I agree with Bill, etal on this. I predict that Adam, Kris, and Allison are going to have strong weeks and I really hope Matt does, too.
Lil and Scott: Go home, already. And I don’t care one way or the other about Anoop, sorry to say.
so im really worried about anoop this week cuz i feel like scott will get the pimp shot position (8th) since everyone else in the group got it atleast once (anoop @ wildcard) and adam lil and danny(ew) at the top 36 rounds. and the person with the pimp shot spot usually gets a lot of praise from the judges. so idk if scott is definately going to go. i Hope he doessss!
Go ANOOOOP! woot woot
i always seem to agree with ew, swap danny and matt but the rest i am the same on. adam, allison and kris have been my top 3 for a while now.
If the rumor is true that Adam is singing Edge of Seventeen by Stevie Nicks then its a great song choice IMO!
Add me to the list of those who would like to see an emotional, connected performance from Adam. I love him, but to hear him sing “Come Home” on youtube, or “I Just Love You” by Five for Fighting is AWESOME.
The general public needs to see A LITTLE more of this Adam – there are many, many sides to him, that’s for sure!
Adam singing Edge of Seventeen? Excellent!!!
OMG – Edge of Seventeen!!!!! He will be fantastic – I can feel it already. I hope he does NOT speed it up – I hope he takes it SLOW. That is, IF the rumor is true!

Doug, where did you hear this?
See my other post.
Thank you Doug! <3. I made a new thread
If Adam ever sang I Just Love You, I would fall to the floor in a weeping mess. If he sings Edge of Seventeen, I hope he gives it some nuance, starting it a bit softer and then building it. People LOVE Stevie Nicks, so that could win him a lot of fans.
i adore i just love you, it gives me goosebumps every time i hear it and come home i heard for the first time on saturday and it was beautiful, so if adam does something along these lines he may edge even further ahead and win over some more of his haters
Go Anoop. Please make a good song choice and just sing your heart out. Don’t let the judges get to you. Prove why you deserve to advance.
Obviously several Danny “dislikers” here, but thats OK. Doesnt really matter, cuz it will be Adam and Danny in the end. It makes for good ratings, you know Idol likes to stir things up. The headline will be something like “Bad Boy vs Good Boy?” or Dark & Light, who will shine?” Or if Danny messes up it will be Kris & Adam and it will be “Roomies part ways—from Friends to Foes”.
Yea WAIL is good…with a touch of screetch some time!
I Just Love You is so great. Edge of Seventeen DULL. with no potential for greatness, even with Adam.
“If Adam ever sang I Just Love You, I would fall to the floor in a weeping mess.”
Don’t shoot me… but I did that already. LOL. (Ugh, bad falling out with boyfriend; all ok now haha.) Anyway, he showed that he can pull it back and go all out.
“Edge of Seventeen DULL. with no potential for greatness, even with Adam.”
Said the same thing with “Play that Funky Music”. Boy, was I proven so wrong.
I really hope that Kris gets to sing some George Harrison or the beatles because he is great at that I also wish that he could get a chance to sing something original… like this and check out the link to the other song.

It’s so easy to agree with Slezak! He’s a little biased towards Kris if you ask me, and maybe Anoop ranks a little higher than he should, but as Adam is #1, who cares?
