The rumor on the “American Idol” front is that next week’s theme is iTunes Top 100. If that’s true, the show finally might feel like a fresh, young show instead of a Randy Travis/Smokey Robinson colonoscopy. So here’s what I think each person of the Top Nine should sing:

Matt Giraud. He should sing “You Found Me” by The Fray. And I think it should be only him and his piano. No backup. As the idol judges say, he could have a moment.

Adam Lambert. I have this strange fascination with guys covering girl songs, so I’d love to hear Adam do Kelly Clarkson’s “My Life Would Suck Without You.” It’s rockish enough for him and if anyone can pull off a female to male transition, it’s Adam.

Danny Gokey. Hokey Gokey should totally do “Don’t Stop Believin’” by Journey. Yeah, I couldn’t believe the 31-year-old song is on the Top 100 either. I think we have “The Sopranos” series finale to thank for that. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great song, I’m just surprised, that’s all. Anyway, Danny could pull this off and since he’s as old-fashioned as the song, it could be a hit.

Kris Allen. Jason Mraz’s “I’m Yours” would be perfectly suited for Kris’ smooth voice. Though it might be time for him to speed things up a bit. He’s cute as a button, but he’s not very exciting. Maybe he should bust out with Lady Ga Ga’s “Just Dance” instead.

Allison Iraheta. My pick for the next American Idol should sing “So What” from Pink. Allison can clearly “sing the phonebook” as people on Idol like to say every season, but Pink is right up her alley. I also almost picked “Hot and Cold” by Katy Perry, but I’m so tired of that song I changed my mind.

Lil Rounds. The judges keep nagging Lil for picking the wrong song, so this is her week to do the right thing. The right thing would be “Halo” by Beyonce. No ifs, ands or buts. But there is an or: “Single Ladies” by Beyonce. Now that could be fun.

Scott MacIntyre. I almost fell asleep trying to find a song for Scott, much like I do when he performs. Yeah, he’s a snore. That’s why I picked “Love Who You Love” by Rascal Flatts.

Anoop Desai. Again with the guys singing girl songs, I picked “Thinking of You” by Katy Perry. It’s one of Perry’s less edgy songs, so I think Anoop could put a soulful spin on it.

Megan Joy Corkery. This was a tough one. There aren’t many of those artists she’s trying to rip off currently on the Top 100. But I think she might actually be able to not massacre “Manhattan From the Sky” by Kate Voegele.

LOVE this list! I would almost rather Allison do Sober by Pink though! But any Pink or Kelly would be great for her!

Of all people, Adam ahould NOT sing a song by a woman. he risks sounding like a female impersonator. Nope. Stick with dude songs. Go big. Go Journey.

  3. Michelle wrote on 29. Mar 2009

I agree that Adam should stick with dude songs. BUT we don’t know what he’s going to do and nobody has ever guessed it right. That’s part of the fun with him :D

  4. Andrew wrote on 29. Mar 2009

Gaah I’m telling you Megan needs to sing Adele! It’s so suiting!

  5. Alx wrote on 29. Mar 2009

Journey is for Adam. I don’t think that Gokey has the range needed.

    Wow.

Great list. I think all of those song choices are brilliant..
I really hope some of them materialize. I am dying to hear Matt do The Fray. Perfect. And with the piano he would kill it.

The only three I would want to listen to sing those suggestions are Matt, Adam and Allison.

I’d die if adam sung that kelly clarkson song. I acutally hate that song. just another cheap pop- wanna be rock song..its tacky and downright dumb..who wrote that disaster of a song anyways? SING JOURNEY ADAM DO IT DO IT FOR YOUR GLAMBERT FANS!

  12. Michelle wrote on 30. Mar 2009

o my god, why would you want to give stupid gokey adam’s song?? I’m so tired of ppl giving gokey all this attention and now he gets adam’s song…NO WAY..

  13. Anod wrote on 30. Mar 2009

Oh, PLEASE! GoatKey cannot do Steve Perry. Ok, we straight on that?. Geesh.

Megan should sing “Umbrella” by Rihanna. Would be the perfect song to showcase her sexiness and quirky vocal stylings. Might give her an extra week or two on the show.

Whether you like Megan on the show or not (there is always a natural bias against the hotties because people assume their hotness is the onlt reason they haven’t been voted off), but she really does have a very interesting and current sound and could so well as a recording artists, expecially with a good mix.

I predict that Megan will be the years Kelly Pickler. Roundlt lambasted as being hot but talentless on the show, then ended up being a top-selling recording artists (except Megan doesn’t need implants :) .

Also, maybe Anoop will do ‘Kiss Kiss’ and I hope Danny will do ‘4 minutes’ (not sure why but I think it would be good : ) )

iTunes #1’s? That list above? Ugh, ugly songs. I *hope* it’s the Top 100 downloads instead.

  18. THINKING_IN_PASO_ROBLES wrote on 30. Mar 2009

I’m glad it is not the current top 100 songs because most on there are complete garbage! I listened to all of them this weekend, and there is nothing on that list for Lil’, Scott, or Anoop. I do agree Allison should sing a Paramore or Pink song, perfect for her voice. I am dying to hear Megan sing a Nelly Furtado song, her voice is so suited for those songs and she could actually have a night that showed she was worthy of being on the show. Adam will do something spectacular, I’m sure, I just hope he speeds it up this week.

  19. suebrody wrote on 30. Mar 2009

I think the list is okay. It’s a bit like this week’s list (some of the same artists).

Okay, so…someone could sing Cook’s Time of My Life… :) (No, don’t do that, people. That belongs to David. Plus it wouldn’t clear.) Come on, sing SexyBack, someone, please!!! (Talking to you, Adam.) At least Lady GaGa and Kelly Clarkson and Pink and Beyonce are still on there. If anyone sings David Archuleta, I will be forced to put my foot through the TV set. And no Click Five. No one will sing Hallelujah by Jeff Buckley b/c Castro did it so beautifully last year.

If this is the list, watch for someone to sing Hey There, Delilah or Apologize. And Maroon Five would be amazing. Someone do Maroon Five.

Just curious: does anyone dislike Fergie as much as I do? Blech.

I cannot WAIT until tomorrow night’s show.

Honestly, those are awful choices for the conestants. Hopefully no one is dumb enough to pick My Life Would Suck Without You – I mean Kelly just sang that on Idol and who would take the risk of singing any Kelly song for that matter? But if someone did happen to chose that then I think Adam is the only one who could pull it off. Danny couldn’t handle Don’t Stop Believin’, in my opinion. That song is made for Adam and he’d rock it! One of the groups already sang Hot ‘N Cold so it would be silly of Allison to pick it. That song doesn’t have a lot of range either – not a good song to sing on Idol. Anoop and Thinking of You!? That would be my last pick for him. They don’t fit together at all! Bad, bad choice and his voice is a lot bigger than that song! Lil and Matt’s choices are pretty good though. These are just my opinions though. :)
