This is basically a rumor at this point, but it does make sense…

I’ve heard from quite a few people today that the 9 (or so) contestants that compete for the final three spots in the top 12 on Wildcard night will be singing the SAME song that they sung on their respective top 12 nights.

This makes sense considering that the contestants chosen for the Wildcard Round fromGroup 3 will not have enough time to learn a new song considering that their Vote Off Show is Wednesday, March 4th and the Wildcard Show is Thursday, March 5th.

How do you guys feel about hearing the same songs again?

***UPDATE: You know, they MAY just review tapes for the contestants they ask back. That would fit within the time constraits better, right?

i dont think they should be able to sing the same song again because i dont think it will be a very good show to watch the same people sing the same songs. and those songs obviously didnt do very well for them the 1st time, so i dont see how singing the same song is gonna help to choose the final 3 contestants to make the top 12

This won’t be good for those contestants (such as Anoop, Ann Marie) that were criticized for their song choice. It’ll be a very bad show if this is the case, I think.

terrible idea. people like anoop didnt make it because of his song choice. this is basically suicide.

That’s pretty lame. Why bother even having them sing again, if that’s the case?

You know they’ve already picked who they want to advance. What song they sing wont matter at all to the judges.

What if the contestants have been picking 2 songs to prepare each week? Like one for the regular show and then one for if they have to go on to the wild card round?

Honestly, I think this makes it a lot more fair to those who did a FANTASTIC job. Like Ricky. The other’s who chose the wrong songs, that’s their loss. But in the next two shows we are going to have some pretty fantastic people not make it to the top 12.

    WHAT?? Thats just pointless.

I hope Ann Marie gets a Wildcard pick. But she won’t want to sing the same song again!

Since the wild card round is, IMO, a joke, and just a ratings plot, it won’t matter, anyway. After the week’s results, they will go with the singer they wanted in there in the first place. Top 24 was SO much more fair. Now, if the viewers got another chance to vote, it eoulf be different, but the way it will go, just skip the performance show–maybe that will show the Idol producers what a pathetic idea this was–and then just hope your favorite (e.g., Ricky) gets the chance he or she deserves.

I’m hating this season more and more. The judges are the ones who are going to pick the final 3 wildcards that make it into the top 12 anyway, so what is the point of having them sing the same songs and putting us through the torture of it? They can just review the videos and make their stupid picks. How dumb.

Well..the people that are going to sing for the wild card round are going to be chosen from the people who didnt already advance to the top 12. not everyone who didnt advance to the top 12 already is going to sing on the wild card show night..because that would just be too many people

  13. Joes Place wrote on 24. Feb 2009

Yes, B. There will be aount 9 contestants asked back to try to secure one of 3 spots.

Also, They MAY JUST REVIEW TAPES. That actually makes a lot of sense . It would then fall within the time constraints.

JP, I am trying to figure out the point of the wild card round (and of the results show that tells us who they put through, while the others writhe around and get passed over a SECOND time). If they already know who they want, and I bet they do, why are they putting them (and us) through this? In her interview with TVGuide.com, Brooke White said she never would have gotten through on this system, and what a bummer that would have been.

Yeah, Suebrody brings up an interesting point. How does this all work? If they don’t sing I don’t see the point. I guess, for the contestants, they HAVE to hang around just on the chance they are picked but it does seem cruel. Make some people hang around for 3 weeks and not give them another chance to sing, assuming that people from the first week MAKE the wildcard and don’t make the final 12, of course.

Just seems pointless to be and a blah show that would leave everyone feeling empty and cheated (fans and contestants) at the end of it.

That being said, how could the judges, on the air, make that decision or is the whole thing taped and then they splice it together to make it fit one hour with the ‘results’ not actually being live.

It says in this article that they’re going to bring back people that weren’t necessarily from the semifinals.

    Know anything about this, JoesPlace?
