A poster at EW gave a few clues as to what four contestants are singing this week.
Here’s what was posted:
This doesn’t have much to do with last week’s results, but I wanted to share some info on this week’s 12. I have ties to one of them (can’t say which one), and I have found out some of the possible song choices for this week. Sadly, not all. But I do know what at least 4 of them have been practicing (its only Mon, so they could change their minds. I know at least one has two possible songs they’ve been working on). Nick - This “salty” standard has been featured in film and covered numerous times, most notably in the 80s.
Adam – One singer of each gender has had a version of this wistful ballad reach the Billboard top 10.
Matt G – He takes a turn at a contemporary hit. Hopefully, Matt will live to sing another day.
Jasmine - Madonna had a hit with a different song with the same title as the recent hit that Jasmine is singing.

But it clearly won’t even matter if it’s mediocre because Danny was sooo mediocre with a Mariah Carey song and the judges were jumping up and down over it (except for Simon of course).

yeah I think that would be a great choice for him. He could show off his low range in the verses and hit the high notes in the chorus… its such a tough song but I really think it will establish him as possibly one of the best vocalists this season…

I am confused about Matt’s clue for his song choice, but if he is singing the Coldplay song, I think he’ll be fine.
“Without You” is a really hard song to sing so if this is definitely Adam’s song choice, it will be either a hit or miss. However, considering he is one of the best male singers this season, I think he could pull it off. He could even get the last spot in performance order if he does a great job.

I heard Adam was doing ‘Cryin by Aerosmith. Faith Hill had a ‘Cryin hit, but they aren’t the same song. And I wouldn’t call Aerosmith ‘wistful’.

I’d also kill to hear him sing Lady Marmalade. I’m very afraid of him starting with a ballad, after the Cher choice. He needed to bring some rock this week. There is always wild card if he picks a bad song. He can sing anything, I don’t understand picking a “wistful ballad.”
Does ANYONE actually know Adam and is monitoring these boards? Can someone get him a message that his fans do NOT want another pop ballad right now? I am such a huge fan and I want him to advance, but I am worried…. Someone please get him a message that if he wants to win, he needs to be this year’s rocker.

I would like Sitting By the Dock of the Bay, though, b/c you can really switch that one up, but I would still go bigger. Lady Marmalade would be amazing, if he nailed it, and it could easily send him into to the Top 12.
I think it’s a little risky for Matt to do Coldplay, b/c Viva La Vida is still charting, and will be automatically compared to Coldplay.
That said, I totally see Jasmine doing Rhianna. Angel by Natasha Bedingfield is also a good bet.
And anyone who picks a Michael Jackson or Jackson Five song is REALLY looking for trouble, IMO, after last week’s disaster. Only David Cook gets to do it (after Billie Jean, how can you even try an MJ song?). If Kris picks MJ, he has officially shot himself in the foot.
I’m a little surprised that this stuff is getting leaked out, but there are always spoilers, I guess. It all depends on how the singer does (or who is the favorite). I am still shaking my head over Michael Sarver. Blah song, blah performance. Anoop should have taken it over him, if the votes were really that close.
And I hate to say it, but I only remember the guys and Jasmine and Meghan, for what it’s worth. The guys are TOTALLY gonna take it this year. Poor guys. Too much competition. I wish only guys could win for the next two weeks.
While I would LOVE for Meghan to sing “Nothing Compares 2 U”, I have a hard time believing that Prince would clear the rights for one of his songs on AI. He’s notorioiusly controlling over his music.
