A poster at EW gave a few clues as to what four contestants are singing this week.
Here’s what was posted:
This doesn’t have much to do with last week’s results, but I wanted to share some info on this week’s 12. I have ties to one of them (can’t say which one), and I have found out some of the possible song choices for this week. Sadly, not all. But I do know what at least 4 of them have been practicing (its only Mon, so they could change their minds. I know at least one has two possible songs they’ve been working on). Nick - This “salty” standard has been featured in film and covered numerous times, most notably in the 80s.
Adam – One singer of each gender has had a version of this wistful ballad reach the Billboard top 10.
Matt G – He takes a turn at a contemporary hit. Hopefully, Matt will live to sing another day.
Jasmine - Madonna had a hit with a different song with the same title as the recent hit that Jasmine is singing.
Let the guessing begin….
Normally, I try not to post stuff from peole I don’t know but since I’ve already spoiled what Matt Giraud will be singing this week, his makes sense.

I HAVE NO WAY TO VERIFY ANY OF THIS It looks like the clues match these songs, right? Perhaps they are accurate of perhaps someone saw the clues posted and made songs to fit the clues

Suebrody – apparently, Matt does “Viva La Vida” as part of his set list back home and has his own “twist” on it.
It’s a big hit where he plays, so I am confident that he will do well with it! No risk, no reward right?
That rumored song list from Facebook, looks quite accurate. Hmm…I wonder? There are a lot of strange choices though. Some songs are contemporary hits while others are old school!
I definitely do NOT see Kris singing Nickelback. His voice is not deep enough to really handle that song. I think he’s pick something more from the likes of Lifehouse or something in that area or a soul song. If he actually did choose Nickelback, he’s made a mistake.
Another possible song for Adam has come to mind just now. Meatloaf and Celine Dion both sang It’s all coming back to me now” and I am sure both were top 10 hits…
Think there is any way Adam can rock up “All By Myself”, speed it up, mix it up? I’m very afraid if this is his choice. He can sing ANYTHING and this song is so boring and overdone.

Another reason the Meatloaf song comes to mind is that Meatloaf and Katherine McPhee performed it in the finale of her season, but I don’t think anyone else has ever sang it. I love that song. I hate All By Myself. I am really hoping that spoiler is wrong.
IMO the Meatloaf/Celine Dion song would definitely a more interesting pick than “All By Myself”, although I find both songs a little too schmaltzy (not in a good way), for lack of a better word. “Without You” (done the Nilsson/Mariah way, NOT with the soulless but vocally proficient Kelly Clarkson/Leona Lewis approach) has the potential to be a great performance in terms of technique AND the all-important emotional connection.
Another rumor is 4 non blondes, but who knows..
everyone needs to listen to kris allen doing over the rainbow on youtube – it is amazing – he is the best in season 8 but no one knows because of no screen time!

Kris has nothing on Adam. He’s the best singer AI has ever seen.
I do not see Nick singing “Crying” that is just not for nick or normund. He will do a soulful type song, I liked Sitting on the dock of the bay suggestion, but “sea of love” was in a film, and sung by contestants in the past. And for Normunds routine I think “Margaritaville” would be in play.
I have no idea but “Crying” just doesn’t fit.
I think that the song list just took the clues from EW, guessed for themselves and then put some random ones in for other ones, but who knows. We all laughed at last weeks list before it was confirmed.
My thought: Do NOT pick a song that another singer did really well. Comparisons will abound. Be careful about songs that are out RIGHT NOW (Coldplay, Rhianna), b/c, again, comparisons will abound. Pick songs that are typical of your style, with maybe an interpretation but don’t go pick something totally unsuitable (e.g., Casey singing Every Little Thing (He) Does is Crazy–not a smart move). It’s tough to pick a song that will highlight everything you want, especially without a backing band OR an instrument, but it’s possible. As long as it showcases your style and your highlights, it should work out. I think it’s tricky to get too interpretive this soon (so you wonder about Matt doing Viva La Vida, more b/c it’s out now than b/c he can do cool things with it
).
I would love to hear Meatloaf! But if I hear any Mariah or Whitney or Leona…ugh. What about Britney or Christina? (Just to change up things.) And if you choose Michael Bolton (Matt B.), you have already taken yourself out of the competition, IMO. *yawn* I really don’t think he will make it out of this round, the way Michael did last week. There are just too many other strong singers, and I think America will go, Oh, no, look what happened (no Anoop, no Ricky, no Ann Marie, etc.) and will pick up the phone.
Was the Puttin on the Ritz song ever in a movie and was it covered alot.

Nick is not singing “Ritz”…guaranteed.

“All Coming Back To Me” would be an interesting song choice for Adam. David Hernandez sang that last year and did a pretty good job. Not sure why people are so apprehensive about “All By Myself” though. Adam has incredible rang and this song is really challenging. I think he could establish himself as one of the best singers this season with that song.
So Nick is singing Puttin on the Ritz.
Jasmine is singing Take A Bow.
Matt is singing Viva La Vida.
But what is Adam Singing, Is it All By Myself or All By Myself? I still don’t understand the clue. JoesPlace can you give us another clue for Adam?PLEASE!!!!!!!!!
I have two favorite songs over the past 6 months. “Time of my Life” and “Viva la Vida”.
Cook was my favorite last year.
Giraud is my favorite this year. Therefore, “Viva la Vida” sounds okay with me. GO MATT!!

JP, “Sea of Love” does fit the clues. It was the title of a big Al Pacino movie from the 80′s. Ellen Barkin and John Goodman co-star. One of my favorites, actually. Plus, it has been covered by everyone from Tom Waits (my fave) to IZ Kamakawiwo’ole. It was the first thing I thought of too, Lera.
I love sea of love, listen to Robert Plants version. It’s absouletly a great song. I just hope Nick can sing it well. If he is indeed doing “Sea of Love” then Nick isn’t going to do it as Normund, he is going straight on this one.

VFTW mentioned that one of Adam’s choices could be “True Colors” by Cyndi Lauper and then covered by Phil Collins. I listened to the song again and I forgot how beautiful it is and how much I loved it! OMG, if Adam did this song, I would die happy. Such a beautiful song with a beautiful meaning. Very fitting for him and subtle at the same time.
I would take this song over the Celine or Mariah cover anyday. Please let it be “True Colors”!
The song was a #1 Billboard Hit for Cyndi and I believe it was #2 for Phil Collins as well.

i love that song!!! (sea of love) AND… it kinda does fit the clues. it is a standard, and it has to do with salt: the sea is made of salt water. kinda works. lmao. and i could totally picture nick singing this.
True Colors would be so much better than Mariah or Celine. At least Adam has us guessing!

They formed it because they wanted to play some heavy R&B music but it really didn’t take off. “Sea of Love” is a re-recording of an old song and as you can see by the link, it was covered a lot.
Everything about this song fits the clues, and given the History of the song itself bodes well for Normund. He is that R&B guy!
This is enough of that I promise. I just didn’t think Crying really fit Normund or Nick. IT just wasn’t him you know? *shrugs* I could be wrong.
All of the rumored song choices for Adam just make me think…hmm…how would he ever be a mainstream artist? Just my opinion of course…
I think he’s just trying to show his voice enough to get in the Top 12. After that we’ll get to see more personality, hopefully he’ll glam it up more. Just my opinion of course for me too.
Yea, Adam. He’s gotta prove himself vocally now. Also don’t forget sometimes they can’t get like ANY damn song approved. I think Adam is totally marketable. But for now he’s gotta tone it down to get the middle America vote.

That rumored list actually seems real. They all match the little riddles given earlier this week.
Adam will do amazing with whatever song he picks but I’d love it if he did “Without You”. That song would suit his voice well. I think he’d nail it. “Against All Odds” would be another good choice for him. And I’m also SO excited for Nick! Haha – love him! Cannot wait!
oh please be wrong about “All By Myself” for Adam; it’s just too sappy! He knows how important song choice is so I have to have faith that he’ll pick something just great; we’d love to hear him sing “What’s Up” by 4 Non Blondes – he nailed that on his videos. “Without You” is one of my all time favorites, the Nilson version – so touching & Adam could pull it off!

Adam was told over the weekend he could not perform the song of his choosing. As of Monday night he still did not have a song. This info is from a post by a fellow Wicked cast member. We don’t know yet what song he wanted to sing… Same old crap from AI….
