PAULA: FOURTH JUDGE IS MISTAKE

PAULA Abdul isn’t too keen on the addition of fourth judge Kara DioGuardi to “American Idol” this season.
It’s nothing personal, she says – just business.
“Kara and I have known each other for years and we get along great,” Abdul tells the March 9 issue of OK! magazine.
“But we tried four judges before and it doesn’t work.”
Abdul is referring to Angie Martinez, the Hot 97 DJ who joined “Idol” as a judge before the second season but bailed before the season kicked off.

She Tells The Magazine That 4 Judges
Slow The Show
When specifically asked if this was her last season of ‘Idol’ Abdul responded; “It is the last season of my contract, and I have so many other things I want to do. There are only so many hours in the day.”
Abdul also reveals to OK! that she thinks having four judges on ‘Idol’ slows the show down and having four judges doesn’t work.
“Kara and I have known each other for years and we get along great. But we tried four judges before and it doesn’t work. It takes up so much time for each of us to give our opinion that it slows down the pace of the show.”
She goes on to tell the magazine that she is pain free for the first time in 12 years. Abdul had her 15th surgery to correct back and neck problems. She also states that she is medication free.
“I weaned myself off everything I’d been taking.”
I would trade Kara for Paula anyday. Paula’s been great on the show…but she’s become too much of a “fangirl” for certain contestants, rather than an actual critiquing judge.
Hopefully, they will go back to three judges – this time with Kara instead of Paula.
You know who I think is useless? Randy. He knows a lot about the music industry, but does he give us ANY insight? Not really. More like, Dawg, that was blazing molten hot! You can sing anything, you can sing the phone book, too…etc., ad nauseum. At least Paula TRIES to be insightful and tell us how she feels about a contestant (even if she isn’t completely articulate). Tell me one time Randy said anything remotely useful (though we do get to hear about pitchiness every so often). I like Kara, Simon is needed though too snarky at times, and I think Paula is the supportive one. I’m not sure who Randy is exactly…
^ I agree. I’d like it to go down to 3 judges with Randy no longer a judge. I can’t recall anything useful he said either.
I think the consensus of most Idol fans is that Simon is the only one of the 3 long-time judges who is remotely considered a decent judge. That getting rid of Paula or Randy is not really too big a thing. I think just about anyone in that role gets a little tiresome after 8 years. Kara adds to the program. In my opinion, Paula’s comments are not helpful to the show and indirectly slam Kara.
Can Paula get any dumber? She’s already been confronted about telling someone else that she plans to quit the show, then turns around and tells it to someone else. You know what makes the show go so slow? Paula’s stupid, long comments. It’s constantly “You….you….did……amazing…..I love…..you….and you are….an…..amazing……great….fantastic….person and sing….etc” Kara is a much better judge and I hope Paula does leave the show.
Sorry, Cassidy but you actually think Kara is any LESS of a fangirl than Paula?! You would have to be a Gokey fan to take that position, because when the girl gushed like a teenager about how this mediocre church singer “gives hope to us all”, it made many people kinda nauseous, me included.
Could it be a thing that Paula doesn’t feel like she is getting as much talking time and thats the reason she’s saying all this?! Personally, I don’t think it slows down the show at all and it may do the show some good to have some fresh blood.
Then again, I thought the same thing when Nigel left and after this we have this new format, Ricky-gate, and everything else so we will see I suppose..
Uhh Laura, I am actually the opposite of a Gokey fan, I am a Matt Giraud fan!! I agree that Kara was disgustingly “fangirly” over Danny last week…but that is honestly the FIRST time I’ve seen her like that. And Randy wasn’t any better really. I think Paula had a little rubbing off on her if you ask me.
I am saying, at least Kara gives pretty good constructive criticism. She rarely over-praises anybody – unlike Paula, who is a fan of every guy that gets up there and sings!
Interesting: Paula says that the format isn’t working, though she is the one who basically jump started Kara’s career, but at the same time she has only one year left on her contract and wants to “explore other opportunities.” Is she upset that she didn’t get a choice in the matter? Is she using this as a reason if the producers don’t want to renew her contract?
I don’t really see the judging going more slowly than usual; in fact, it means less Randy face time (I hope, unless he starts saying something more useful than “that was a molten lava hot performance on that joint right there tonight!), and will hopefully make Paula speak more concisely. I need to hear more of Kara’s comments before I can really critique her. I nearly always agree with Simon (though I’m tired of his star quality remarks; he was wrong about Cook and others, and how can you tell after ONE LIVE PEFORMANCE SHOW?).
As weird as Paula is on the show, she really does have a good ear for talent such as Elliott Yamin and she was also right about Ricky Braddy. We kinda need her to be the designated nice one. Randy is a little useless but i say keep him since he’s part of the chemistry. i like Kara but it’s kinda true that 4 judges don’t work since there’s just too much talking (and you know everyone just wants to know what simon will say anyways)
